The peace’s educational Campus

The Peace’s Educational "Campus" was born in 1995 in Sant’Anna di Stazzema; it deepens the nonviolence and the international solidarity’s themes.
It’s addressed to conscientious objectors, people belonging to pacifists and solidarity’s groups and associations, teachers and educators, all the people interested to these themes. In the eight past editions many guests and foreign chairmen intervened. They told their own experiences like the nonviolent interventions in Kosovo, Brazil, Palestine, Israel, African Center Republic. Moreover, many other themes like the nonviolent economy, the Gandhi’s thought, the mass-media’s role during the conflicts and the economic globalization’s effects were treated.
The Peace’s Educational "Campus" is organized with the collaboration of the "Franz Jägerstätter for the nonviolence" ’s group of Pisa and the Pisa University’s "Interdisciplinary Center Sciences for the Peace".

Why in Sant’Anna?
The history of Sant’Anna di Stazzema is an important testimony to preserve the painful and tragic events’ memory, which is the start point to reaffirm the democracy, justice and equality’s principles which are the base of our Constitutional Paper. The sacrifice of so many innocent victims has contributed to guarantee our liberty, thanks to which we can refuse every kind of violence, overcoming and authoritarianism. Sant’Anna is therefore a symbol to look for planning actions to spread an opposite culture to what, in a few hours it brought so much destruction to build different roads from those of violence crossed by the executioners.
With the institution in Sant’Anna, since 2001, of the National Park of the Peace, organized activities have always been directed to strengthen the bond between the memory of the facts and the education to the peace: thousand of boys and adults visit every year the Historical Museum of the Resistance, that entertains documentations and shows, and hundreds participate to activity of formation, conferences and meetings. One of the most meaningful moments of this way is represented by the Peace’s Educational "Campus".

Silvia Nannipieri, person responsible of Jägerstätter group, says: "The places where the tragic events happened, among them the village of Sant’Anna di Stazzema, allow to establish an intense contact, which isn’t hasty, with the site and its memories, moreover, they mostly reveal their own meanings; therefore, with the help of the rapporteurs and going through the injured places, we will try to meditate about the ideologies which caused these massacres; doing that, we will leave our feelings to focus on the reason why and we will try to experiment the educational possibilities of the peace."

2001’s Edition
VI Peace’s Educational "Campus" - August 20-30th, 2001
Making peace
Trilateral meeting among young people from Palestine, Israel, Italy and the native communities. The participants - Hebron and Jerusalem Universities’ students - have been cohabiting during ten days, confronting each others about the theme of the dialogue which is the only way for the unviolent resolution of the conflict.
It was an important opportunity to facilitate the peace among people and nations in war.
This is the message but, above all, the commitment that the Tuscany Region got in Florence on August 27th of 2001, during the meeting among its President, Martini Claudio, and the participants at the "Campus". Martini shared and confirmed the mayority opinion emerging by the various interventions: the need of a direct dialogue which is the only way for a pacific cohabitation among the people. It’s an absolute fact that the end of every war depends by the will of Governments and International Organisms to sign peace agreement, but the basic need is that the concord could originate from the populations, so that the harmony could take root in our culture and mentality.

2002’s Edition
VII Peace’s Educational "Campus" - September 6-8th, 2002
The Memory and the Peace
Ideas in comparison toward a "school of peace"
The organizers, making own the spirit of the law instituting the National Park of Peace, proposed three days of comparison and research to gather and to elaborate other Schools of Peace’s experiences made in places analogous to Sant’Anna. They had the purpose to deepen the data element useful to carry out a project proper for the place’s institutional and formative demands. Therefore, the project is a sort of meditation to build a steady educational structure in Sant’Anna di Stazzema.

2004’s Edition
IX Peace’s Educational "Campus" - August 26-31th, 2004

The men don’t shooting: active resistance and disobedience against the war

The 2004’s edition was dedicated to the contemporary experiences of resistance and objection against the war, mainly referring to the wars in progress in Iraq and in Palestine. The themes faced were: the active resistance and the methods of unviolent disobedience against the war. Guests and foreign chairmen, conscientious objectors of both conflicts, activists engaged in interposition’s activity, pacifist groups and solidarity associations’ agents gave their testimonies.

2005’s Edition
X Peace’s Educational "Campus" - September 1-4th, 2005
The Memory and the Peace
The Preventive Peace Unviolent Popular Defense (DPN), civil service, unviolent interposition...
It was addressed to activists, researchers, young people under civil service, corporate bodies settled for the civil service, O.N.G., pacifist and unviolent movement’s exponents.
Starting from the Law n°230/1998 instituting the National Civil Service and the Advice’s Committee for the Not Army and Unviolent Civil Defense, (to experiment unviolent methods to resolve the conflicts and to use the conscientious objector/volunteers in the humanitarian missions
and to maintain the peace in the areas at war) in Italy could be possible to organize an unviolent defense with the Institutions’ help? Is desirable that this happens? How do we have to intend the defense, and how can we overcome the "professional military" model, in order to prefer the "unviolent popular " model? And the resources making available by the law, how must be used?
